A crown or cap, is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface with the expressed purpose of restoring the tooth or teeth to their original shape and size with a natural sheen. A crown protects and can strengthen the tooth structure more than with any other type of dental restoration.
Dr. Newman is also proud to announce that we are now accepting CareCredit for dental crown procedures, call our office for more details!
Do You Have...
Although there are several types of crowns, porcelain are the most popular. This is because, thanks to the properties of porcelain, they resemble your natural teeth in color and reflectivity. Highly durable they can last for years, but like most dental restorations, they may eventually need to be replaced depending on the frequency of proper care and personal diet. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size and color of your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.
A crown procedure usually requires two appointments. During the first appointment, several highly accurate molds will be made that will be used to create your custom crown or crowns. A mold will also be used to create a temporary crown which will stay on your tooth for approximately two weeks until your new crown is fabricated by a dental laboratory.
While the tooth is numb, Dr. Newman will prepare the tooth by removing any decay and shaping the surface to properly fit the crown. Once this process is complete, your temporary crown will be placed with temporary cement and your bite will be checked to ensure you are biting down properly.
In the second appointment, your temporary crown will be removed, the tooth will be cleaned, and your new crown will be carefully placed to ensure the spacing and bite are accurate. Regular dental visits to check your new crown will be scheduled and it is recommended that the appointments be kept.
