MAC Veneers vs. Traditional Porcelain Veneers By on January 01, 2015

Dental Veneers

Getting the smile of your dreams is not as impossible as it may have seemed in the past. In fact, there are so many options out there for enhancing the overall appearance of your smile, it may be easier than ever to look your absolute best. When you meet with a skilled cosmetic dentist, you can learn more about all of your options for advanced aesthetic care. In many instances, the ideal option may involve the use of dental veneers.

Right now, we'd like to consider two different kinds of dental veneers: traditional porcelain veneers and new MAC veneers. While traditional porcelain veneers have been very helpful for many patients, the use of MAC veneers has us very excited about the results that can be achieved.

About Traditional Porcelain Veneers

Traditional porcelain veneers are thin shells of specially crafted dental ceramic. They are used to conceal the following dental flaws from view:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Stained teeth
  • Tooth gaps
  • Crooked teeth
  • Uneven teeth

Porcelain veneers are partially translucent, which means that light partially passes through them much like natural tooth structure. When in place, people are unable to tell the difference between a person's natural teeth and teeth that have been treated with porcelain veneers.

While traditional porcelain veneers have yielded excellent results for years, there are different kinds of veneers out there with plenty to offer patients, including MAC veneers.

MAC Veneers - A New Level of Excellence

MAC veneers are a different kind of dental veneer which may better meet your cosmetic dentistry needs. In fact, when patients see the advantages that MAC veneers have over traditional porcelain veneers, they often express greater interest in the MAC veneers.

MAC Veneers Are More Durable

Thanks to their unique construction, MAC veneers are two to three times more durable than traditional porcelain veneers. That means less damage from wear and tear, longer lifespan, and less need for repair.

The best part is that MAC veneers do not involve a radically different placement process. In fact, the process is identical to the prep and placement of traditional porcelain veneers: a fraction of a millimeter of tooth structure is removed so that an impression can be taken; it is from this impression that the MAC veneer is custom crafted.

MAC Veneers Are Even More Accurately Colored

Traditional porcelain veneers are usually color matched using four shades of white. The results were quite good, and people cannot tell that a person received porcelain veneers.

However, MAC veneers are color matched using 16 different shades of white, meaning ever more natural, seamless results from smile makeover treatment.
